The town of Astillero is a unique little fishing village. It supplies seafood for most of the restaurants, resorts and towns in this section of Nicaragua. The town has several restaurants and shops. 

It has a mile long stretch of calm protected beach that is home to dozens of boats. There are several boats with experienced captains and crews that are fully equipped for either off shore fishing or trips to any of the many surf breaks in the area

The paving of the road between the Pan American Highway and Astillero has started. Soon the time to access other areas of the country will be greatly reduced. The trip to the airport in Managua will take only an hour and a half once the improvements are completed.
